A security solution is only valuable if it’s functioning properly at all times.

In a continued effort to share best practices and security tips among those in the financial industry, the third webinar in Verint’s Security’s Virtual Experience series provided a firsthand look at how today’s leading banks are addressing risk mitigation within their organizations in today’s turbulent times.

In the previous session, a look at the state of the financial industry showed that robust tools are necessary for financial institutions to identify threats and comprehensively protect people and assets.

The Leveraging Verint Op-Center for Greater Efficiencies discussion featured insight from Tina Pickup, Vice President, Security and Fraud Investigations, Berkshire Bank and Randy Bullock, Assistant Vice President, Security Officer, Origin Bank. To start, Verint’s Director of Product Management, Jim Moran, provided some background about the Verint Op-Center video management solution, conveying that you can manage health, firmware, updates, and more from any number of locations within the powerful platform.

Both Pickup and Bullock commented on the fact that Op-Center enables them to establish a more proactive approach to threat identification and device management. For Pickup in particular, manually managing more than 160 DVRs and 2,000 cameras across Berkshire Bank “would be an impossible task.” She said that automating this process and immediately knowing in advance that a device isn’t working—and being able to fix it without losing time—is invaluable. “It never fails in the fraud world that you find out something wasn't working [after the fact],” she said. “That doesn't happen with Op-Center.”

Bullock wholeheartedly agreed, adding that Op-Center is also helpful at the end of the year when his team has to identify which devices will need to be replaced soon or how much storage space is being utilized. “As we’re growing and adding more, I’m trying to get rid of analog cameras and add more digital cameras to our arsenal, and it’s taking more hard drive storage,” he said. “It helps me to be able to see that.”

Aside from ensuring device functionality, Pickup highlighted the fact that the platform helps with image quality as well. She recalled a time where a janitor had cleaned and accidentally moved a camera, and Op-Center was able to identify that the camera view had changed and sent a notification through the system. With Op-Center’s video verification, Pickup can be sure that she’ll be notified immediately if something like this were to happen again.

Bullock said that he benefits from this level of proactivity when it comes to firmware updates, which would take up significant time in the past. “I had to do it after hours or take the risk of bringing down and updating units while we were open,” he said. “Now, I can schedule a firmware update in the middle of the night. It helps to not be eating up time when I could be doing more proactive things for the organization.”

As today’s leading banks such as Berkshire and Origin continue to face an evolving threat landscape, staying ahead of the game is crucial—and Verint Op-Center facilitates the ability to do just that.

From the ROI it creates to the reassurance it provides, financial institutions can be sure that vulnerabilities can be addressed quickly and incidents will not go uncaptured.
